Athena is a program to help manage heart failure patients

Athena is used by heart failure liaison nurses the length and breadth of the UK (see map). Athena is also used by cardiologists in dedicated heart failure clinics. Athena defines the standard for managing heart failure liaison services in the UK.

Athena helps you to meed the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease Milestones. Athena is designed to help manage patients according to the NICE Guidelines on Chronic Heart Failure

The British Heart Foundation chose Athena for its pilot Heart Failure Liaison Nurse Service. It then received £10 million from the New Opportunities Fund to roll its heart failure service out across the UK. Athena is used in all PCTs that were successful in bidding for Heart Failure Networks Programme Nurses
